How we painted our stairs black
This is one of those projects that I wish I would have done the moment we moved in. Why did we wait so long for this stair makeover?! For some reason it’s very nerve wracking to paint original wood. Putting paint on a floor surface feels even more wrong! I’m here to tell you, Just do it! You won’t be sorry. It will make your old stairs feel so fresh! When we moved into our old home, we were excited to see mostly hardwood floors. Terrible, nasty, hardwood floors…but hardwood nonetheless. A few years back we got some quotes to refinish the wood. It’s expensive ya’ll, so we decided to…

DIY Industrial Curtain rods + extra long DIY curtains
When we moved into our house about 4 years ago, we didn’t have a lot of money for renovations, but we did have A LOT of windows to cover. I’m thankful for our many windows letting in tons of light during the day, but they also allow the neighbors to see everything we’re up to when the sun goes down (sorry guys). So, when we moved in we just needed to cover those bad boys asap to give ourselves some privacy. I found the cheapest two packs of white curtain panels as well as the most inexpensive curtain rods I could find all with the intention of changing the curtains…

We refinished our 100 year old floors!
Why didn’t we do this years ago?! We refinished our 100 year old floors! One of the things we loved about our house when we first saw it were the original hardwood floors. We thought the floors had such potential to be beautiful! Although they were very beat up, discolored, worn, scratched, splattered and faded, we could still envision the potential with a simple floor refinishing. But guess what, turns out refinishing a floor is expensive and time consuming, lol! Fast forward 3 years and we still had the same beat up, rough, discolored floors. Also, that awful old vinyl in the kitchen (you can check out our kitchen makeover…

How we painted our kitchen cabinets – An inexpensive change that makes a huge difference
We moved into our current home a little over two years ago. We hadn’t intended on buying a fixer upper, but needed to move to the area pretty quickly, especially since our old house sold within two weeks. The idea of a charming old home to fix up was so exciting (and a bit scary) when looking at homes. When all was said and done, we ended up buying an older home built in the 20’s right near our cute little downtown. We love being near downtown and that the house has a lot of character, but there is a TON of work to be done. Tons of wallpaper to…

DIY spring garland
It’s still 30 degrees here in Indiana, but I’m doing my best to make my home feel bright and springy! I still had a lot of my winter decor around the house, and this week I got the urge to freshen up the house for spring! I LOVE garlands and have been looking for a light and springy garland that doesn’t look like it belongs in a babies room. I also don’t want to spend $30 on something I can make myself, SO I decided to make my own DIY flower garland! We have this big, old barn window (straight from my dad’s barn) right above our buffet in the…

Our bathroom renovation on a budget
(This post contains affiliate links. Please see our Privacy & Disclosure policy for more information) We moved to Valparaiso about 2 years ago. It’s easy to remember how long we’ve been here because I was about 8 months pregnant with our third baby. My husband just took a new job, so we were working through a new home, new town, new baby, and I was staying at home full-time for the first time ever! Needless to say, it was a nuts time in our lives. Here we are two years later…with a 2 year old….and things have slowed down a bit. Our house had been on the market for quite…

DIY felt bow tutorial with free PDF pattern
Six years ago I found out I was pregnant with my first baby girl. I remember wanting to buy all of the things for baby girl. All of the leggings, rompers (oh the rompers!), bows and headbands. Well, our budget doesn’t allow for all of the things, lol, so I decided to do my best to make it all! I taught myself how to make leggings (you can find that tutorial here) and knotted headbands. I loved the felt flower and bow headbands that became so popular a few years ago and learned that all of those cute Etsy shops that make felt bows, probably use some sort of machine…

Easy DIY Canvas
I love all of the adorable hand scripted canvases and prints that are happening right now. I browse the aisles of Hobby Lobby and want to buy them all. BUT as with most things, I remember our tight budget and think, “I can totally make that!” I’m not an expert at calligraphy, but it is still possible to make a pretty, custom, hand painted canvas without being an amazing artist! We just gave our upstairs bathroom a makeover, and I was in need of some decor as a finishing touch. I made a fun custom canvas by transferring some text I printed off of my home printer. I’ve used…
