DIY felt bow tutorial with free PDF pattern

Six years ago I found out I was pregnant with my first baby girl. I remember wanting to buy all of the things for baby girl. All of the leggings, rompers (oh the rompers!), bows and headbands. Well, our budget doesn’t allow for all of the things, lol, so I decided to do my best to make it all!

I taught myself how to make leggings (you can find that tutorial here) and knotted headbands. I loved the felt flower and bow headbands that became so popular a few years ago and learned that all of those cute Etsy shops that make felt bows, probably use some sort of machine to cut them uniformly and perfectly each time. Well…I ended up opening a shop of my own and have one of those machines (Sizzix Big Kick) that cuts perfect little uniform bows. Prior to buying that though, I would have loved a quick little pattern to make some little bows for my baby.

SOOO, I created a quick and easy tutorial so you can make your own felt bows!

Here’s what you’ll need:

Print your pattern and cut your pieces out. I pin the pattern pieces to the felt so they don’t slip.

Once you have all of your pieces, start hot gluing them all together.

First add a bit of glue right in the center of the piece shown in the photo. Fold one side tab down and secure in the middle. Add another dot of glue and fold the other tab down to the middle. See below.

Glue the back piece on to the back of the bow “ears” piece.

Add the center piece by first attaching with a dot of glue to the center front of the bow. Leave the back open until you’re ready to attach it around your clip or headband.
Finally, add a bit of glue to the back of your clip and stick it to the back of the bow, folding down one of the center piece tabs over the clip. Add some more glue to the other tab and fold that down onto the clip as well.
