Bunny Hat Sewing Tutorial with Free Pattern

With Easter right around the corner I thought I would share this sweet bunny hat sewing tutorial including a free pdf pattern!

When my kids were babies I loved making little knotted hats for them. One Easter I added one more “knot” and came up with this cute little bunny!

What you’ll need:

1/4 yard stretchy knit fabric. I love shopping this post for some other knit fabric resources!
Sewing machine or ” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Sewing needles for knit fabric.

1. Print the pattern and tape together at the dotted line.

2. Cut out all pattern pieces.

3. Place the top of the hat pattern piece at the fold of your fabric and cut two top hat pieces.

4. Place the band piece at the fold of your fabric and cut two bands.

5. Choose a fun print for the inner ear and cut two inner ear pieces using the pattern. Knit or woven fabric will work for the inner ear. I used a knit.

6. Lay a top piece of the hat right side up and pin the two inner ear pieces in place. Sew around the edges to secure the inner ear. Don’t worry about the raw edges of the inner ear.

7. Place your two top pieces with right sides together. The inner ear pieces you just sewed on should be on the inside. Sew around using a stretch stitch or a serger. When finished, turn right side out.

8. Place your two band pieces with right sides together. Stitch up both sides with a stretch stitch or serger.

9. Fold the band up and in half so all seams are inside as pictured.

10. Place band at the raw edge of the top of the hat piece so that all raw edges that are left are together. Serge or stretch stitch all the way around the band, securing the band to the top of the hat.
